Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix BETA Available Now
The name keeps getting longer and the series refuses to just lie down and give in. Street Fighter is back for another bash at the beat-em-up genre, and the HD Remix will be available on Xbox Live when it’s fully released. For now, though, you can get involved in the Beta testing phase because a Beta version is included with the purchase of Commando 3.
The test version has fortunately been designed to ensure that the networking code and netplay code works properly. We say fortunately because, according to OXM it just isn’t cutting it properly at the moment. To be fair about it, of course, that’s the entire point of Beta testing phases. While Backbone Entertainment, the developers, could certainly test it themselves to an extent that just doesn’t give the kind of global spread and full data that a Beta will.
Xbox Live Arcade is, at best, largely filled with tripe that the majority of us would do well to ignore. Bar a few saving graces, such as Worms, there’s really not very much on the Arcade shelves that I, at least, would spend my hard earned Microsoft points on.
Those games that do provide value are usually the older games designed when gameplay was everything and the graphics were comparatively limited. Take Worms as the prime example – the original and arguably the best in the series was created with limited graphical capabilities and yet its simple mix of strategy, compelling weaponry, and just plain cuteness made it a hit.
For that reason, the upgraded Xbox Live Arcade version of Street Fighter, with the almost instantly forgettable long name (for the record, it’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix) should prove to be a hit. We’ll be sure to test it when it comes out of Beta.
