Rock Band 2 ION Drum Kit - More Details
It seems that the Limited Edition ION Drum Kit for Rock Band 2 is causing something of a stir so we thought we’d blast you with another post providing some more details. Essentially, the news is that the special edition ION kit will only initially be available (expected release date is mid September) on the Xbox 360 but ION Audio do plan to offer versions for the Wii and PS3 at a later date.
Pre-orders for the US Xbox 360 version can be placed on the official drumrocker website. Again, this kind of highlights the fact that the first release will be for US users and not us poor gamers that live anywhere else in the world.
The Premium Rock Band Drum Set will be compatible with the original Rock Band game and Rock Band 2 and will cost $300 (about £150). That may sound like an awful lot of money for an Xbox 360 controller but you do get a lot of bank (poke) for your buck (pound).
The aluminium frame can be adjusted to match your playing requirements, not something you should expect to see on the kit in the box. And, if you’re really think that you’re good you can swap the game brain with a proper drum kit brain and use it as a proper, authentic, genuine, rocking ION electronic drum kit.
The kit is designed to look and feel like a proper drum kit too. When you’re flailing your sticks about the place the main noise you’ll hear (besides your own swearing when your timing’s out of kilter) is the drum sound effect rather than the noise of stick hitting controller. Two cymbals are included as standard while a third can be added as an optional extra at a cost of $49.99 (£25) and, because this isn’t a rigid plastic frame controller, you can place them anywhere you like to suit your personal drumming preference.
The entire ION Special Edition Rock Band 2 Drum Kit is built to take a beating – it is, after all, a drum kit/controller hybrid. From the metal pedal to the strengthened aluminium frame and reinforced drums you can bang the drums as hard as you like without having to fish out the warranty in the vain hope that abuse is covered in the standard 12 months.
So, there we have it, hopefully that will have whet your appetite a little more but we’ll be sure to let you know when more details regarding a firm release date, alternative formats, and worldwide release dates are available.
