Kameo: Elements Of Power
Kameo: Elements Of Power was one of the original line up of games on the Xbox 360 when it was released way back in 2005. Largely because of the anticipation that surrounded the relese of the Xbox 360 itself, Kameo: Elements of Power was one of the most widely written about games in the world for some considerable time.
The First In Next Gen Graphics
It’s got to be said that even now, when developers have had a lot more time to hone their skills, the graphics look more than just reasonable. Lag was non-existent, frame rates great, and the world was generally a happy place because it meant that the Xbox 360 was delivering on its promises just as much as the game was.
The Basic Idea
The main idea behind the Kameo storyline is that the player has the ability to morph into various different creatures. At the start of the game, this includes the staple diet of three but this grows steadily with a grand total of 11 different characters (including the main girly) as you find more elemental powers throughout the game. Each character also becomes increasingly powerful as you upgrade, making it a progressive game indeed.
Gameplay
There are four impressively large zones in the game and each one has more than its fair share of puzzles, scraps, and quests to embark upon and they are all certain to keep you busy throughout. Hospitable areas are included in each of the zones and these still contain their own quests and puzzles, but with less fighting.
Transporting between the areas can be done magically by clicking a couple of buttons, on the back of a particularly fine looking filly, or on foot – walking or riding will mean a constant battles against the minions of evil. Fighting is fun, although please never quote us as having said that, and while the easiest solution to beat most enemies is glaringly obvious that doesn’t really detract from the gameplay.
Sound
The sound is also really good with an almost cinematically written score and decent sound effects. Voice acting is also of a good calibre and rounds off what was, and remains, a really good launch title that brought HD gaming to our screens with reasonable prowess.
Final Word
Kameo: Elements Of Power has certainly been replaced by better looking games with more playability but it’s definitely worth taking a look back and, if you haven’t played it and are stuck for something to do then slap it in the tray and give it a whirl.
Classics Score - 8/10
