Too Human European Release Date
I don’t tend to pre-order games too often, and I’m definitely not the kind to sit outside Game for 6 weeks in a sleeping bag with nothing more than a tub of Pringles and a can of Diet Coke for sustenance.
However, I’m in something of a quandary now. I’ve already placed an order on Fallout 3 and am considering doing the same for Too Human (despite the fact that we second rate Brits yet again seem to be missing out on the pre-order bonus – albeit, a pointless bonus but nevertheless, it’s the principle of the thing).
Canadian developers Silicon Knights have come up with a real eclectic mix of modern, futuristic, Norse mythology. With a combination like that, you already know that the game has to be incredible or Silicon Knights will ultimately pay the price.
What’s even more courageous, though, is the fact that it has already been penned for a trilogy. Now that’s either confidence or blind stupidity and from the glimpses we’ve had of the game it looks as though it should be lauded rather than ridiculed so we’ll roll with that sentiment for now.
It is being pushed as a largely cinematic experience, with a unique and apparently highly intelligent third person camera system. The angles provided will immerse the player even more into the game and make them feel like they are playing a film; obviously, the inspiration in the trilogy idea.
As if an intuitive and glitch free camera system wasn’t enough, we’re also being promised ridiculously over the top combos that will seamlessly integrate melee attacks with a range of weaponry. These combos will be further enhanced through slick animations and exceptional sequences too. It’s certainly ticking all the right boxes so far.
The storyline is this: you are Baldur, the son of Odin, and are tasked with the protection of humankind against the rising of the machines. Throughout the game there are references to Norse mythology, although with the cybernetic twist that I don’t recall from my school days (hence, I love the idea).
Cybernetic upgrades are a major facet of the game and add an element of RPG to a game that is already becoming rather difficult to pigeon hole into a single genre – unless of course there actually is a “cinematic cybernetic norse fantasy action RPG adventure” genre.
Many elements of the game already have a steely similarity to that of the movie industry. Huge chunks of the game and even the production techniques are being kept a closely guarded secret. There’s a planned trilogy, that has become de rigeur in films lately.
Due for release on 19th August, we don’t have that much time to wait, and while I make up my mind whether or not I’ll swallow my British pride and pre-order the bonusless version or not, I’ll also hunt out some more information, screenshots, and the usual list of assorted preview goodies.
